United Kingdom

Our main training base in the Hamble on the south coast of England is the gateway to the Solent, a challenging stretch of water between the Isle of Wight and the English mainland.

The town of Cowes on the Island is often referred to as the home of British sailing, a buzzing town that hosts the Cowes Week Regatta in August each year.

The South Coast also allows easy access to many French ports, including the ports of north western France and Brittany. Along with the Channel Islands, these popular and challenging cruising grounds, with their strong tides and the changeable British weather offer challenging navigation and pilotage opportunities.

Our courses also take in the south western areas of Devon and Cornwall ensuring a truly broad experience and great offshore and coastal sail training experience.

Bay of Biscay and Eastern Atlantic

Global Yacht Training offers ocean passages from the Isle of Wight to France and  across the bay of biscay and down the Western Coasts of Spain and Protugal to Gibraltar.  The Bay of Biscay is a region known for rough seas and is home to some of the the Atlantic Ocean’s fiercest weather. Under the instruction of Global Yacht Training’s experienced and professional RYA Yachtmaster Instructions the sailing passages the cross the biscay are great experinece and skill builders for sailors wanting to gain ocean miles and qualifications. The Spanish and Portugese coastlines enroute to Gibraltar offer some beautiful coastal scenery and welcoming ports. The spanish coastline of Galicia peppered with bays and inlets which are  picturesque and peaceful. The portugese coast offers huge variety from the craggy mountains and endless beautiful beaches of the Costa Verde though to the concrete jungle and touristy Algarve.

Caribbean - Antigua and the BVI's

Antigua and Barbuda are  one of the Caribbean's premier sailing  destinations. If you need any incentive to get stuck into your  sailing course then the sailing paradise that is the Caribbean is sure to inspire you.   Global Yacht Training offers exciting sailing adventures onboard our fifty foot Beneteau or you can choose  modules of RYA training courses in this beautiful location.

The Island of Antigua has warm steady winds, a complex coastline of safe harbours and a protective, nearly unbroken wall of coral reef.  The expansive, winding coastline hides a wealth of secluded, powdery soft beaches. As part of your course or adventure here you can explore some of the worlds most beautiful beaches, Islands and harbours.  Antigua and Barbuda are located in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean, roughly 17 degrees north of the equator. To the south are the islands of Montserrat and Guadaloupe, and to the north and west are Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Barts, and St. Martin.

The BVIs boast clear blue water, sunshine every day, and islands close enough to navigate by sight, the BVI is a sailor’s heaven. The BVIs are a small cluster of Islands located in the northern area of the Caribbean sea.  From the main capital island of Tortola, you can  have incredible variety in a cruising area that is about 32 miles long and 15 miles wide. There are sixty islands to explore  and endless number of cays, harbours, anchorages and moorings

Mediterranean

Global Yacht Training offers you the opportunity to sail in many different Mediterranean locations from the impressive Rock of Gibraltar at the entrance to the Mediterranean sea. As part of an extended passage exploring  this area of the Mediterranean offers a really wide variety of countries and sailing waters from the Spanish Costa del Sol, North Africa, Morrocco, Portugal  and through out into the Atlantic  to  the Atlantic Islands of the Canaries.

To sail eastwards into the Mediterranean you can get onboard a Global Yacht Training sailing adventure or milebuilder to Malta.  The beautiful Islands of  Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca offer surprisingly unspoilt calas and bays away from the tourist areas. Further into the Mediterranean Sea there is some spectacular island scenery around Sardinia and Malta. The Maltese Islands include active volcanic peaks where night time eruptions of lava look stunning against the blackness of the evening sky.

Australia

Courses run from Brisbane, the capital of Queensland and third largest city in Australia. The protected Moreton Bay Islands surround Moreton Bay itself and provide one of the best training grounds of tidal waters on the east coast of Australia.

From the white sands and turquoise water of Moreton Island, the bay stretches south for 60 miles to the Gold Coast Broadwater- a sailing paradise that offers a unique  surroundings and sailing conditions.

At the northern end of our training grounds the Bay is some 20 miles wide with the magnificent anchorages of Moreton Island on the eastern side and the marinas of Redcliffe and Sandgate on the mainland side. South of this the bay starts to narrow as you pass the entrance to the majestic Brisbane River - only 15 miles upstream you can moor in a marina in the heart of the city. South of the river mouth lie the historic islands of St Helena, Green, Stradbroke and Peel which offer good anchorages. With a labyrinth of islands between here and the Broadwater there is all round shelter for over 20 miles. This complex waterway leads to the marinas and anchorages of the Gold Coast with all it has to offer.

The bay is alive with bird and marine life; dolphins and dugong are seen regularly and the odd whale breaching at the northern end!

South from Brisbane offshore passages and mile building legs take in the coast of New South Wales down to the stunning Sydney Harbour itself. This is a challenging stretch of coast with few ports of refuge, and what it lacks in tide it makes up for in weather!

North from Brisbane and the sailing becomes truly majestic. Fraser Island, famous for its four wheel driving adventures, through to Hervey Bay, with its annual whale migration and onto the fabulous Whitsunday Island and Great Barrier Reef.  The Whitsunday Islands nestle in the protected waters of the Reef, and enjoy steady trade winds. The turquoise waters and climate rival that of Fiji, Tahiti or the Bahamas. Famous for their natural beauty, these islands provide numerous opportunities to explore and make great offshore passages.
